The Simplest Thing That Brought Me 480 Subscribers In One Month
ANYONE on Substack can do this today without breaking a sweat.
I’m not convinced that Substackers need coaching to achieve INCREDIBLE growth here. When I receive emails asking for growth coaching I usually refer them out to real coaches like
, , and .It's because I only have ONE growth tip to give…
It has served me VERY well and I have compelling proof to back it up.
The tip is called NOTES and if you learn to use Notes properly it’s all you need to grow organically and “joyfully” as
would say. 😊 I use ZERO social media outside of Substack. So, how does one use Notes properly??
Stop promoting your links and start being relatable.
I know that sounds counter-intuitive because we all want to drive eyeballs to our story links but that’s not how engagement works around here.
Every single day we’re inundated with links begging, “Please go read my stuff!” Nobody needs more stuff. We need more feelings of community. We want to relate to each other and there’s no better way to do it than to post a note that is easily digestible and highly relatable.
PROOF:
Following are screenshots of notes I posted in March and April that are responsible for Wildhood Wanted moving from 500 subscribers to 1100 within a very short time. None of them contain links to “go read my stuff.”
But guess what? People are reading my stuff now because they subscribed.
That last one is BONKERS. It’s still circulating today at over 5000 likes and 400+ restacks and I’m actually kind of tired of it 😂😂 I’d like to get on with my life now!
What I’m trying to say is that people are exhausted from being advertised to and linked to death. Facebook and Instagram have that market wrapped up. Substack is a much more intimate community and those screenshots are proof of what the people want.
So…the next time you’re looking for a growth hack, try putting yourself out there rather than just another link.
Give yourself a trial period of one month to be a relatable human on Notes and see what happens!
Unstack Substack deliveries are meant to be short and sweet, and not clutter up your inbox or your day. 😊
If your tolerance for tinkering with Substack is below sea level, you’ve got options! Send me your to-do list and forget about it.
Your example posts are brilliant
"Go be a relatable human"🤣 Always solid advice over here!
Congrats on your very well deserved growth!
