Yep, I created templates as soon as Substack introduced them. I also created templates to be used

in other projects, too.

I think many of us did the same before this tool came out. 😊

Thanks Kristi. I have been saving bits of text elsewhere to include them regularly, but using templates is a much better solution, as you show.

I did that for years as well lol. I was copy/pasting from a Google doc. This is such a great tool.

Well, going to be using this NOW - thanks for the tutorial!

Great information Kristi. Thank you. And just so you know, you explained it perfectly!

Thank you for telling me that! 😊

Thanks. This was very helpful.

This was super helpful, Kristi. I always assumed templates were for entire documents; I didn’t realize they could be for things within documents. You’ve just saved me a lot of time going forward. Thank you!

You're very welcome Chris!! 😊

Thanks for this, Kristi. Question: how would I KNOW if most of my readers are reading in the app or online vs reading the emails? And - would it make sense for me to replace my current email header and footer with the in-note header/footer templates so all readers see the same thing? Why or why not?

Kristi Keller πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦'s avatar

Sandy, I don't think there's a definitive way to know. That's one of the problems with the platform is our stats don't differentiate who's opening where.

As far as which header/footer options to use, that is personal preference. What i will say is that maybe you can use both for different things. Put the most important into a template for use inside the post. That way, you know for sure that 100% of those who read will see it.

You're welcome! And thanks for the feedback...I never know if I'm explaining things in a way that is understandable lol.

Grrat teaching! I had not looked into templates much, but just assumed it was for the entire post and not individual assets inside of it. Thanks for clarifying.

Kristi Keller πŸ‡¨πŸ‡¦'s avatar

You're welcome, Nicole! I think lots of people are in your shoes, so this template feature is a great addition to the tools we have!

Great post, Kristi! There are so many ways this tool can be used. It's helpful. But when are they going to give us left and right photos and text wrap??? Love you, friend! xo
