Great new feature, and yes, it was tempting at first to go 'full rainbow unicorn'!
Since I joined just a few months ago, there have been quite a few new design features. On one hand, that is great and exciting, but on the other hand, I feel a bit overwhelmed. I loved the idea of a very simple platform with fewer choices. I know...I dont have to use any of it. :-)
Sabine, you're not alone. It is totally overwhelming for me as well. Rapid changes are difficult to keep up with but the good thing is that we can pick and choose which features we want to use. Keep it as simple as you want.
Thanks Kristi. I knew about the highlighting, but the colored text is a nice addition. I noticed in your video that one screen (Homebodyish I think) also had purple check marks as bullets? And I saw underlines in red and blue - but that might be your choice for links, I just realized....
LOOOOL I admit, ChatGPT put those checkmarks there but I have learned with emojis that they appear much differently depending on whether you're on a phone or a desktop, etc. Anyone can add checkmark emojis either via phone or desktop.
The underlines are from Grammarly. I have it installed on my laptop and it underlines what it percieves as "grammatical" errors in my text.
As with **many** other features on Substack, none of this appears on the phone app. Major disconnect in the reader experience depending on which platform they access Substack with. Frustrating. But that’s the reality at the moment.
Miriam, you're not the first in the comments to say that. I agree, it's so disappointing! However, the highlighting does work, it's just the colored text that doesn't show in the app. Booooo.
When I use these none of it shows up while reading my post in the app🤷♀️ I put it all through my post yesterday and it just looks like I’m ‘shouting’ in bold all over the place. My frustration in this environment is at an all time high🤔. It does show up in the online version. If you read my latest post in the app, please tell me if you see color text. It could just be me in the app…🥺
So… for now, don’t bother with using the color and highlight options? I was just about to start doing that, but maybe I’ll wait for the app to catch up.
Yes I did create them in Canva. They're part of the branding packages I offer and will be part of my branding cohort next month. But if you want to struggle thru trying it yourself, use Canva and create them with the dimensions of 2000×300 px. And download on a transparent background. There are billions of options you can put together depending on the vibe of your publication.
Absolutely
Great tutorial, Kristi - thank you!

Great info, Kristi, thanks for keeping us abreast of the changes!!

never mind. when I go to the page for the bonanza, the check marks are black, they just read as purple in the video. Or I've had too much coffee...

Good call, Cori. I just looked in the app as well and you're right 😕 That sucks so bad. I guess they're expecting nobody to use the app. Ugh.
So… for now, don’t bother with using the color and highlight options? I was just about to start doing that, but maybe I’ll wait for the app to catch up.
Highlighting shows up both in the app and online but colored font is not showing in the app
The highlighting works in the app. It's just the colored text that doesn't show.
Thank you for checking. Often the strange glitches are just me or only a few people.
Yes - I will be using this feature- thanks for making us all aware!
You're welcome Betty! It's such a fun option. 😊
I'm interested in the text dividers you use. I assume you created them yourself? Any tips?

Thanks, Kristi! I really appreciate your help.
