A Simple Way To Tie Your Substack And Your Website Together
All your internet properties should link together for the greater good!
Do you have a website?
If so, which came first…your website or your Substack?
Regardless, if you have both you’ve probably wondered what’s the best way to tie them together.
A couple of months ago, I showed you how to add a link to your Substack navigation bar that takes readers to your website. Awesome if you followed through and added it but have you also considered the flipside?
This week’s simple tip is compliments of who noticed the smallest but most practical detail on my business website.
She noticed that I have a link named ‘BLOG’ on my navigation bar that leads visitors straight to the Substack you’re reading right now.
Why did I name the link ‘BLOG’ instead of SUBSTACK?
Because (sorry
) but not everyone in the world knows what Substack is yet. But everyone knows what a blog is.Think of it from your site visitor’s point of view - if you’re a life coach, is it likely that your clients will click on the word Substack? Probably not but they’ll for sure click on the word Blog because they’ll be curious what you’re writing about, especially if they’re thinking of working with you.
Reasons why a ‘Blog’ link is a great idea:
Everyone knows that having a blog as part of your business website is prudent.
If you have a ‘blog’ link that leads to your Substack, you only need to write your blog posts once (here on Substack).
It’s a super simple way to encourage website visitors to subscribe to your Substack even without knowing what Substack is. If they want to read your blog, they’ll land on your Substack and PRESTO! A potential new subscriber.
And finally, backlinks. If you’re not sure what backlinks are and why they’re SO good for your website and SEO, read this:
That’s it for this week! I hope you found this tidbit useful! No need for an epic outro here, sometimes it just is what it is!
Unstack Substack deliveries are meant to be short and sweet, and not clutter up your inbox or your day. 😊
I had my website first and wrote my blog post there (WordPress). Now that I write my blogs on Substack I cut and paste them to my website. Linking them would definitely cut down the work for me, I'll have to play with that!
So happy our convo inspired this one! ☝️ FYI I went back and forth & am testing out Substack as a link on my website rather than BLOG.
But it makes more sense on my site because I have a Substack copy coaching offer, so the reader gets it.
Context is everything.
I'll let you know how it goes! I love that I don't have to take the time to repurpose my newsletter onto my Website blog anymore. I was constantly feeling behind with that task - and now it's gone! 💨 Kristi Keller tech magic! 🪄
