Really interesting Kristi. I have a link with « newsletter » on my website + a popup to subscribe but I don’t get much subscribers from these. Maybe calling it a blog would be better. Also it’s interesting because we are not sure what Substack reslly is for us. For me it’s a blog post sent by email, not really a NEWSletter anymore, even if it is one and I give updates and new products there. I never found the right word to describe it and I think I am not alone 😅
Honestly? I often get stuck between the two. I think blog sounds less markety for sure. But newsletter is what we're crafting here. It's tough to choose. I call mine a bloggish-looking newsletter 😁
You'd be losing it on the website but still have it on your Substack. Speaking from experience, people are finding my site on Google all the time. Longevity and keywords on every page (not just blog pages) has a lot to do with it.
I’ve been a little nervous about linking to my Substack from my website for some reason, but since I’m obviously unclear on what that reason is, I should probably do it! Thanks for the tip of calling it a blog there; that makes a lot of sense.
Linking to your website does creates backlinks, but this impact is minimal compared to publishing directly on your website. I’d rather strengthen my site’s authority and improves organic search rankings by publishing there first and expanding on those thoughts here.
So happy our convo inspired this one! ☝️ FYI I went back and forth & am testing out Substack as a link on my website rather than BLOG.
But it makes more sense on my site because I have a Substack copy coaching offer, so the reader gets it.
Context is everything.
I'll let you know how it goes! I love that I don't have to take the time to repurpose my newsletter onto my Website blog anymore. I was constantly feeling behind with that task - and now it's gone! 💨 Kristi Keller tech magic! 🪄
I had my website first and wrote my blog post there (WordPress). Now that I write my blogs on Substack I cut and paste them to my website. Linking them would definitely cut down the work for me, I'll have to play with that!
Such a great tip. I am currently redoing my website and was trying to figure out what to call it knowing not everyone would know what Substack was. Blog it is. Thank you!
You're welcome! I sometimes wonder if I'm the only one who cares about these things lol...so it makes me happy even if one other person finds it useful 😁

I also call mine blog posts because they aren't really NEWSletters either!
Great idea, Bryan! Thanks for sharing.
Makes one say, "why didn't I think of that?" Thanks for sharing the idea!
Any opinion on the use of the word “blog” vs. “newsletter?”

If you are having your website’s blog link directly to Substack…Are you not loosing that valuable SEO content that a blog gives to your website?

Thank you! I am still working on my website, but I added a Blog link to my Substack.
Excellent!!
Do you prefer a blog made on another site say Wordpress or writing on Substack?
It's all personal preference. I like Squarespace and Substack. I haven't blogged on WordPress in several years.
Wordpress got so complicated! Too many choices meant too much to oversee for functionality and security. Yikes!
OMG I totally agree. I got so overwhelmed near the end with my 10-year Wordpress site. Nothing worked together, it was so clunky!

Well, the good news is, if you decide against it at some point, just remove the link! You don't have to tear down an entire blog 😁

Yes it is and that's the beauty if it all.
Yay def on my list to accomplish this week. I’ve got some website updates to get done and this one is top of list!! Thank you Kristi! 🦋
You're welcome, ma lady!
Thank you thank you!!

I thought of that with yours as well. Totally makes sense for you (and me, actually) to use the word Substack given what we do.
👌
Mine says something along the lines of “We are more than one thing: find em here” with a button…

Same
I hope it works out nicely 😊

Thank you for another useful tip.
You're welcome David!
