How To Feature Your Preferred Substack When You Have More Than One
This is a hidden secret in your profile that you're probably ignoring.
Every ounce of inspiration for this post is thanks to
. A couple of weeks ago she asked me a question that I thought everyone with multiple Substacks knew the answer to.She didn’t, so maybe you don’t either, hence this helpful tip for writers with more than one Substack. (And by the way, also offers super quick and helpful tips of a different nature on her Substack. Go check her out!)
Did you know…
You can choose which publication is highlighted as your main Substack on your personal profile.
I write THREE different Substacks so we’ll use mine as the example profile.
My main one is called Wildhood Wanted and it’s the reason I came to this platform in the first place. Naturally, it appears first in my profile and I like to keep it that way. The other two pubs appear below it in the order they were created.
However….
Let’s just say business was slow and I wanted to feature Unstack Substack first.
Here’s how to do that:
From your main profile page, click the “Edit profile” button, like so:
Then scroll down until you see the Primary Publication heading. Notice below that you’ll see my three publications listed.
You can toggle those switches on or off to control which ones appear on your profile. And, if you click on the dropdown I’ve circled in red, you can switch to whichever pub you wish to be identified with.
Switching this not only makes that pub appear as your main one, but it also makes that pub appear beside your name throughout the platform.
As an example, here’s what it looks like now that I’ve clicked on Unstack Substack as my main publication:
Ta-Da!! There you have it! You’re not tied to the identity that Substack chooses as your default. You CAN switch things up at your leisure!
Unstack Substack deliveries are meant to be short and sweet, and not clutter up your inbox or your day. 😊
On the topic of switching things around…
This is a quick reminder that we’re doing a Homepage Makeover workshop next weekend. If you’ve been wondering how to give your homepage a bit of a glow-up and reorg, here’s all the details of the workshop:
Well... I go to the foot of our stairs! I never knew you could do that. I only have the one Substack, but at some point in the future it may be worth uncoupling sections (I have 3 on H A G) and giving them their own 'Stack, so that is so handy to know, thank you!💕
I love that you show us the things the Substack powers that be think we should know but make it hard to figure out on our own. I wanted to add to this conversation that I switch publications once in a while because people will subscribe from reading my notes and it ensures I get equal love for both my pubs.
