Hi Kristi, thank you for the advice. I only have 138 lovely subscribers. My most liked post only had 30 likes. It's a directory of active florists on Substack. It received 'so' many likes because I tagged in 15 of those florists/newsletters in the post. Anyone seeing 30 likes won't realise that that's a lot for my little newsletter. I think if I paywall it, then it may defeat the purpose of the post in the first place, that is to share with people all the florists on Substack. Any thoughts? Thank you in advance.
Cerina, if you're using it as a directory, then no, I wouldn't paywall it.
For smaller pubs, I think waiting for a bit more growth is always a good idea. However, you never know when you might write that killer post that performs way above average 🙂
Great idea to go back and paywall the favs. Though I have never had that many likes and comments. Merciful heaven I would be over the moon. However I do ok with my little bunch of great readers.
That's obviously a strategy Substack endorses or they wouldn't have the auto-paywall setting, right? How do you find your conversion rate? Is it working?
I’m going to respond to your post in an article about assumptions. Your numbers and related advice make assumptions about the numbers you get. I wonder about how many people would have comparatively like numbers.

Thank you! Killer! Maybe one day 🤣

Thank you and good morning!
Six hundred + likes / comments?!!!
You go girl!
Perhaps if someday I find six hundred likes/comments, I’ll upgrade it to paid ðŸ¤
Lol 600 only happens on how-to-substack posts or politics 🤣
I've often wondered about this kind of strategy. Personally, all my posts become paid for after a month. I don't know if that's a good strategy or not

Hi. No it's not working
Ah. I guess keep revamping your strategy. Try promoting some of those older ones to encourage new eyes.
Thank you Kristi. I am going to work on that

Looking forward to reading it. Tag me so I don't miss it 🙂
You got it.
That's really clever! I didn't know you could change from free to paid after publishing a post! Thanks for the tip!
Yup you can! Just go back into edit mode, get into post settings and make the change. Super simple and worth a try!
Very interesting.
