The Truth About Substack Growth, Notes, & Paid Subscriptions
A candid and FREE coffee chat about the 3 things everyone wants even more than world peace.
This might be a watershed moment for a lot of you.
And depending on where my charm-o-meter is at that day, it may make or break the future of my business here on Substack. 😬
I can feel your frustration in the emails I receive, and I definitely felt it in your survey responses a couple of weeks ago.
Growth. Notes. Paid subscriptions.
These three topics seem to be circling every Substack conversation ALL the time. These are my three least favorite topics because I’m not here to be a hacker, I’m here to physically do the work of helping you build a Substack you’re proud of.
So instead of writing another post about it, I thought we could just sit down and talk.
This will not be a polished webinar that ends with a sales funnel for a high-priced course. Just a real conversation because you know what? To my detriment, I don’t believe charging money for hacks is fully “above board.”
Substack requires a LOT of work. Full Stop. And even after all that work, it might not turn out the way you want.
On Saturday, March 21st at 12:00 pm Mountain Time (2 pm Eastern, 11 am Pacific), I’m hosting a FREE live coffee chat on Zoom for anyone who wants to join me in an honest conversation about Substack growth, notes, and paid subscriptions.
PLEASE SHARE THIS with anyone you know who may be frustrated with their journey.
In my few years on Substack, I’ve had a front-row seat to what works, what doesn’t, and what many people are struggling with. I’ve had plenty of success with audience growth. I’ve experimented a lot with Notes. And I also have some very real experience with the paid subscription model.
During this session, I’m going to be fully transparent about my own numbers and experiences, including the parts that have worked and the parts that still are NOT working for me.
I want to talk honestly about growth. What actually moves the needle and what is mostly noise.
I want to talk about Notes and why so many writers feel confused about them.
And lastly, I want to talk about paid subscriptions. Not the fantasy version everyone came here for, but the reality.
If you’re trying to figure out where you fit inside all of this, you are definitely not alone.
This will be a relaxed, open conversation. I’m setting aside 90 minutes of my personal time at NO CHARGE so we can talk through questions, frustrations, observations, and maybe even a few breakthroughs together.
Think of it as pulling up a chair at the kitchen table and finally having a conversation that a lot of Substackers wish someone would say out loud….without charging money for it.
At the end, I’ll share my “buy me a coffee” link for anyone who feels the conversation was valuable and wants to toss a few dollars in the tip jar. Totally optional. No pressure.
Mostly, I really just want to talk, so bring your skepticism and your curiosity.
We’ll figure some of this out together. ☕
Once again, we’re gathering on Saturday, March 21st at 12:00 pm Mountain Time (2 pm Eastern, 11 am Pacific). I’m hosting a FREE live coffee chat on Zoom for anyone who wants to join me in an honest conversation about Substack growth, notes, and paid subscriptions.
And finally, here is a link to my business website….yes, the same business that may fully collapse after I pour everyone a glass of truth serum at our coffee chat. And the same Substack business that 43% of my subscribers have no idea I even operate.
PRO TIP: If you want to find out what your subscribers know about you, just send out a survey. You, too, could find out that half of them have no idea what you’re offering. 😆

Great idea, sadly I can't make it. But on the topic of growth... I now find it literally impossible to upload email lists to Substack, every single one being declined even with the agreement and GDPR regs met. My platform's growth is being hampered. I'm bringing new readers. I get in the charts, they know I'm not a bot, I've been here for years. Now having to add lengthy lists one by one... sigh... daren't do more than a few at a time in case they too are declined. No help desk, no response despite being told it will be 72 hours, repeatedly. If this is discussed at all, I'd love to know if anyone else is having similar issues. I write romance to smut, and markets are ever shrinking. Is it stealth censorship?
I’m so in for this but can’t make Saturday. Is it recorded?
