I don't really stick to hard and fast SEO rules. I suppose you could just send it out and not repost if you want. All my tips are just suggestions π
Great tip I didnβt know this. But why would you repost a post when you can also βsend an emailβ for an old post as well. SEO wise isnβt it worth having just one version of the thing?
So Iβve done this to make a template for my posts. It is a blank post that just has the images of pencil lines, links, and buttons that go in every post. Itβs actually quite a time saver vs uploading them each time.
But for some reason itβs never occurred to me to do this with an old post. That is a brilliant idea!
I use the copy feature to bring forward my next article so I don't have to start from scratch on settings and to keep consistent my article footers from week to week, but I never considered using it to send out older content again. I like this option so much more than the cross post feature which I've had issues with. Do you happen to know if Google will consider the latest version of the article duplicate content this way in it's algorithm or does it not matter?
Once upon a time I knew about this simple and brilliant thing. Then I totally forgot about it because ... sigh... middle age. But seeing your post at this time is a gift because I was just having a brainstorming session with myself about what I wanted to write about in October. It left me exhausted. But now I know that I can repurpose some stuff from when only my mom was subscribing to my newsletter. Thank you so much!
This is great. I figured just re-stacking was enough. But this actually gives you the opportunity to try a new headline or image to see if you get better traction.
Thanks for the tip. I'm starting to re-use some material from the past that I think is still useful, so this article is write (haha!) up my street.
I have found ChatGPT quite good at suggesting headlines and blog post titles which I play around with until I come up with something I'm happy with (is this cheating?).
Repurposing an older post is brilliant and is honestly one of the most important things I talk about with social clients. MOST of your audience has NOT seen/read all of your work! π¦
And this is a great way to do it exactly that on Substack.
Thanks again Kristi, for knowing all the ways of the βstack. π
The best way to use it is to do a good edit and add new material. Especially if itβs been more than a year since you wrote the original, youβre a different person now so you might have something new to say and a way to put more pizazz in there.
Precisely. Also, for me with this publication in particular, Substack has changed so much that plenty of my old content needs new screenshots or even a complete overhaul.
Just what I needed, thank you@
π
Thanks for sharing this, Kristi. I'd tried this before but not quite wrangled it down! ππ
My pleasure π
News to me-- definitely gonna squirrel this idea away!!-- thanks, Kristi!! π

And THIS is a brilliant idea too! Iβve always gone in and put it all manually. Game changerβ¦
Awesome π I'm always happy to turn on a light bulb or two π
Incredible, Kristi! Thank you. May just put this to the test.
You're very welcome π

I'm not sure how Google deals with it. The duplicate url has the word copy in it so perhaps it recognizes that??
I am definitely doing this, especially at times when I am having a flare-up, and writing something new is a challenge.
Excellent!

Hahaha you're very welcome, Geetika! I know, there are so many tips and tricks that it's so easy to forget the one you could use right now!

Yes!!! Plus you have more subscribers than you did the first time around.

I love this feature!

I have reposted, but Iβve always done it the hard way - piecemeal copy/paste. This is a great tip, thanks!
I mean, copy/paste is a trusty sidekick. But this way saves so many backend steps!
What a great idea! I didnt know about this, Kristi, and I definitely have some old posts I'm proud of that hardly anyone has seen. Thank you!π
My pleasure! This topic has come up quite a bit with clients lately so I figured I'd share it to the masses.
